WHAT IS REIKI?
It is a healing system, probably as old as time itself, used secretly by ancient Shingon Buddhist monks, but more recently brought to the attention of the western world by the famous Dr Usui, of Japan, around the early 19oo's. It involves the channelling of energy by a Reiki practitioner, into the energy body of the recipient.
REIKI or raykee as it is pronounced, simply means to see the Spirit or Light moving.
It is based on the knowledge and awareness that we are more than a physical form. That we are an energy body within, that propels the vehicle that we know as our physical body.
When we get tired or stressed, we feel depleted and are often said to be depleted of energy. Effectively, the energy body is drained. It would seem quite logical therefore, to boost the system with some energy, and that is exactly what Reiki does. It is a bit like giving an engine a kick-start. When the body gets a charge, it starts to feel better and can effectively start to heal itself. Reiki provides that boost.
A Reiki practitioner has been trained to receive light through activation of their chakras. These are the main energy centres that exist within our physical structure. Chakra simply means "spinning wheel". When these spinning wheels get blocked or damaged, we can become unwell. With Reiki these wheels receive a boost of light which increases the body's ability to heal.
If we continually deplete and lose energy, the body is more likely to become seriously ill. Many physical conditions start with an emotional or traumatic incident that causes us to feel out of our own control or helpless. When we experience extremes of emotion, our energy body becomes affected. This too can lead to physical as well as mental and emotional problems and the consequent depletion.
Now Reiki is not a magic cure for all diseases, but it is a powerful boost of light, into your energy field, that can create change within your physical structure as well as the energy body itself.
When you have a Reiki treatment, which involves laying on a couch, fully clothed, with the practitioner placing their hands on the chakra points of the body to channel that Reiki, you will feel calm, peaceful and warm. It is a wonderful sensation to just relax and receive.
When we become relaxed, we are able to let go of our worries and so the energy body starts to embrace the light that is channelled. When we are able to think clearly, we can see solutions to our problems with more clarity and often it is at these moments that the physical body starts to heal.
We all choose our own paths in life and death. There is no right or wrong in these decisions - in the scheme of things, everything is always perfect. And that includes our desire or ability to heal. If a physical body is dying, and the recipient chooses that path, the energy body and soul can still receive the light of Reiki. This will achieve a balance that creates a peaceful conclusion to life. Death is just the next pathway, we all do it. Therefore, receiving Reiki is always beneficial.
If you have chronic pain or conditions that are the result of a slow deterioration of some aspect of health, Reiki can boost the system to make you feel much better. It doesn't matter what the condition is, Reiki has no agenda, and simply clears energy blocks from the body and boosts the system.
WHERE DOES REIKI COME FROM?
It is our connection to source. By that I mean to the heavenly realms. You can call this connection God, Light, Love, Source. It is all the same energy, but received in different strands or frequencies of light.
These strands have different colours and different frequencies of sound, but they all contain the frequency of pure LOVE.
There are many systems of Reiki that you can learn as a practitioner, and each system carries different frequencies of light, sound and colour. As a recipient of Reiki, you may find yourself seeing the colours being channelled, which can be very relaxing and soothing. However, their purpose is specific as they will especially align with you, as an individual, and provide a specific form of healing, just for you. By connecting you with an empowered form of Reiki, the energy boost is more profound. I believe this happens when people pray or ask a Higher Power for help. That is my experience in working in this field.
CAN I LEARN TO GIVE REIKI?
Anyone can learn to give Reiki. You will need to find a Reiki Master/Teacher who is willing to guide you into this subject. There are 3 levels to learning the first Degree of Reiki.
Reiki I is generally given over one day. It will incorporate attunements into Reiki, which simply means that your Crown, Palms, Third Eye, Knees and Feet are open to receive this Dvine Energy. This is done through a simple transmission of light from your teacher's hands to your chakras. You will receive information on the history of the subject, an introduction to the chakra system of the body and how energy flows. A section on space clearing and how to set up a Reiki healing Room. A full explanation of the hand positions used in giving Reiki treatments. An introduction to meditation and a full discussion on giving healing to your client - ie with diagrams etc. You will also receive information on how to give yourself healing.
Reiki I enables you to feel the flow of Reiki. It is not recommended that you start giving others Reiki at this level. Reiki will increase your energy body. As it does this, you will find your own life issues become stronger and rise to the surface of your awareness. This means that you are forced to look into yourself, your behaviour and how you exist in the world. This is the primary purpose of Reiki. To enlighten, and to awaken. As your issues arise, you are likely to need the help and support of your Reiki Master, and that is part of the ongoing connection that is established through teacher and student at this stage.
The more Reiki you receive and channel through yourself, the stronger your own personal development will become. Reiki brings in energy that enables us to undertake a huge self awareness and self-realization process. It starts with that one desire to awaken yourself. Good Reiki practice can therefore take several years to understand and comprehend. With the assistance of your Reiki Teacher, you have the ability to eventually become a teacher yourself. This takes 2-3 years of personal practice.
Many people get drawn to healing because they have had a loss or trauma in their own lives, where they feel the necessity to give of themselves without having to think about their own issues. With Reiki, it is impossible to stay in denial. This is because the light you are channelling brings your own fears and negativity to the surface for release.
When you understand that the process of receiving this light from the Universal Source is to awaken you first, then you will begin to really help all those souls coming to you for assistance. As a REIKI practitioner or Teacher, you will find that a substantial part of your job is to counsel and listen to people as they release their worries and problems. Reiki helps people to clear through transformative light. The more light you receive, the more your issues come to the surface. If you want to remain closed to your own issues, you remain in your own ignorance. This is the power of the ego. It will always insist that the only way is the hard way. However, the REIKI path is the way of surrender, peace and love.
In the same way, the more we practice REIKI, the more we evolve. That is how and what REIKI does. Its primary intent is to take us to the point of unconditional love for all beings.
When you feel ready to take the next level, REIKI II, you will receive an attunement into the first Reiki Symbols. These are very powerful tools and they are used in very specific ways, to enhance and empower the flow of Reiki to carry out a specific task. At Reiki II you will be given full instruction in the use of and delivery of these symbols, both for yourself and for your clients. This one or two day course will enable you to discuss all the issues that have come up at REIKI I that may need attention. It will also provide you with the opportunity to share your experiences.
We are now entering a new realm at REIKI II. This energy will feel completely different to you as a student. It starts to really flow and you will be wanting to share this with others. I would recommend after 6 weeks that you give your first treatment. You may also wish to give feedback to your Teacher. The symbols can also be used to send healing and this too will give you as a student a huge boost of energy.
REIKI III is the Master/Teacher Level. You would probably take this about 9 months to a year after receiving Reiki I. It will enable you to feel a sense of completion at this First Degree of Reiki empowerment. You will be able to learn to pass attunements and give the REIKI I and REIKI II to others. This is a powerful moment because as you receive REIKI in this format you really advance in your own personal development. Here you will be fully guided through the whole process of understanding REIKI. You will become an empowered Reiki Master here. This is a moment of great responsibility and you are asked therefore, to ponder your own words, deeds and actions in life.
As a Reiki Master/Teacher you are now in a position to enable others to 'awaken' and that brings with it a wonderful feeling of love and compassion. The humility and joy that you feel at this level is incredible. As a Reiki Master you are likely to study and learn more about protection, clearance and power as your own light frequency changes.
REIKI is then an ongoing learning experience. There are many degrees and different systems to study that all contain different strands of colour, sound and light. Angelic Sekhem Reiki is very popular right now as the veils between the worlds become more refined. This is a very powerful system that contains the Divine energies of the Elohim and the mighty strength of Sekhmet.
The important thing to remember is that when you are ready, your REIKI teacher will appear. All you have to do is reach out and ask the Universe to guide you. REIKI is like no other healing system in that your connection is unlimited. By that I mean, the more you put in the more you get back.
